Futura Berlin: Odyssey 2

Sep 11, 2009

futura odyssey two Futura Berlin: Odyssey Two

Over at Berlin’s Muenzstr. 19, in association with Artorial, “Odyssey Two” aims to bring together 20 years of Futura’s urban art. Not only a visual anthology of older pieces, there will also be new pieces on display, alongside key works such as the original Pointman canvas and a collection of early Pointman sketches. The show focuses on the dual themes of memory and the past, and the influence these have on an individual’s imagined world. Futura’s obsessions with space and hyperindustrial landscapes grew from his adolescence.

Futura’s latest pieces show an artist comfortable in the world he has created, making accomplished works that use monochrome and occasional, frenetic bursts of outline to perfectly convey mood, atmosphere and situation, without the need for graphic symbols. Collector’s will be able to buy an accessible selection of key pieces in the creation of Futura’s world: There will be a trademark Pointman series and a limited print run. There will also be a small number of recent abstract canvases presented in the environment of their creation.

The show runs from 24th September through till the 27th.

HARD Summer SHUT DOWN

Aug 10, 2009

Hard Summer 2009 was shut down Sat. Aug 8th around 11:30pm. Due to security and safety issues, the City of of Inglewood felt that the event needed to end before the crowd got more out of control. The decision was made about an hour before the official announcement allowing Inglewood riot police to get ready inside and out of the venue should there be any violent reaction by the angry attendees.

Only Busy P and Crystal Castles got a chance to perform while the confused crowd waited for Chromeo to come on. The safety concerns started when impatient atendees were breaking into the entrance to get intothe venue due to long waits by the security check and inside the Forum from people not wanting to wait to get in line to get into the floor and jumping over the seats down into the floor hurting themselves or others in the process.

The Fire Marshall got together with law enforcement backstage at the event and decided that the crowd would be to hard to control once the music started again. The Hard Festival organizers mentioned on Twitter that they will be making it up to Los Angeles and more info will come soon concerning any reschedule or refunds. The Scenestar will update you concerning news regarding Hard Summer 2009 or if Underworld reschedules as we get it.

The venue was not right for the event and the event was poorly organized. I mean at a rave, everyone wants to be on the dance floor, not sitting in the mezzanine. There were no lines designated or enforced so people started crowding around the entrance to the floor and getting impatient. There was no organized system for orderly entry put in place so everyone was cutting and pushing. The event staff did not know what was going on so they could not direct attendees correctly. Overall, event staff were ignorant and very belligerent while attendees just wanted not to be cussed at and to have a good time. Who's bright idea was it to have this kind of event at the forum?

Clearly the event coordinator has no idea what these kind of events entail and need for a venue and good time. The only thing that can be credited is knowing how to give an appearance of a great line up of music.
