Tony Hawk Show [Paris]

Quiksilver will be celebrating it's 40th anniversary Nov. 20-21 at the Grand Palais in Paris with a festival featuring music, art, fashion and, of course, skateboarding. The largest vert ramp ever constructed in Europe has been built inside the dome of the Grand Palais as well as massive street course open to all skaters free of charge. Tony Hawk, Andy MacDonald, Kevin Staab, Sandro Dias, Jean Postec, Sergie Ventura, Jesse Fristch, Christian Hosoi, Daniel Cardone, Javier Mendizabal and Omar Hassan will all be skating on Sunday. The event is open to the public 10 am - 6 pm, the concert Saturday night is a ticketed event featuring performances by Mix Master Mike and Dead by Sunrise aka Chester Bennington of Linkin Park.

All Tomorrow's Parties

Music blog extraordinaires, Pitchfork Media, will be screening 'All Tomorrow's Parties', a film made jointly with Warp Films documenting music festivals all over the world from the past ten years. The film, shot both by professionals and amateur fans, will debut tonight in Chicago at Facets Cinematheque, again in NYC Nov. 13th and 14th at IFC, and will end in LA at Cinefamily on Dec. 1st.

Hollywood Brewfest

This year, Future Sounds, The Music Box @ Fonda, The Blue Palms and Firestone Brewing have come together to bring Hollywood an event that will appeal to the senses of both music and brew enthusiasts alike--the inaugural Hollywood Brewfest on November 14, 2009, at The Music Box @ Fonda.
The Hollywood Brewfest is unlike any other beer festival, delivering over 30 of the finest brewers in the world including: Firestone Walker, Nectar Ales, Magic Hat, Pyramid Brewing, Wyders Cider, Coronado Brewing, Dogfish Head, Speakeasy, and Oskar Blues-to name a few plus, a line-up of over 15 buzz-worthy bands and DJ’s, all spread out over three levels, six rooms and over 25,000 square feet of space. The line-up includes Los Angeles bands: Great Northern, Dum Dum Girls, The Deadly Syndrome, Nico Stai, Castledoor, The Diamond Light, the Tender Box and many more!

Harlow Gold Burlesque

During the month of November, Los Angeles' own Harlow Gold Burlesque will be hosting a month long residency Sunday nights at Bordello in downtown LA. Bordello, formerly Little Pedro's, is an LA institution both recently as a bar/theatre and formerly as a brothel with a red velvet ambience perfect for burlesque. Show begins at 8 pm and tickets are $10.

Flying Coffin and Kicks/HI merged forces in an one night event at Manifest in Hawaii. DJ Delve aka Chris Kam of Kicks/HI was holding down the fort as the sweet tune tycoon, accompanied with an art exhibit from Jason Gomez, owner and creator of Flying Coffin. The event was a night to remember that celebrated the unique aesthetic of both brands and the emerging presence of Hawaii in the industry.

Livestock Block Party 2009

Livestock orchestrated yet another super successful block party this past weekend as a stream of over 5,000 people packed a small section of Gastown to an afternoon of music, food and exhibition. Live music was provided by DJ Age, Flipout, My Gay Husband, Marvel, Rico Uno, Hedspin and Fashen in addition to Guu providing the food. A long list of sponsors ensured a smooth-running event including the likes of The Hundreds, Keep, Puma, Es and G-SHOCK among other brands.

Futura Berlin: Odyssey 2

Over at Berlin’s Muenzstr. 19, in association with Artorial, “Odyssey Two” aims to bring together 20 years of Futura’s urban art. Not only a visual anthology of older pieces, there will also be new pieces on display, alongside key works such as the original Pointman canvas and a collection of early Pointman sketches. The show focuses on the dual themes of memory and the past, and the influence these have on an individual’s imagined world. Futura’s obsessions with space and hyperindustrial landscapes grew from his adolescence.
Futura’s latest pieces show an artist comfortable in the world he has created, making accomplished works that use monochrome and occasional, frenetic bursts of outline to perfectly convey mood, atmosphere and situation, without the need for graphic symbols. Collector’s will be able to buy an accessible selection of key pieces in the creation of Futura’s world: There will be a trademark Pointman series and a limited print run. There will also be a small number of recent abstract canvases presented in the environment of their creation.
The show runs from 24th September through till the 27th.

4th Annual Live Block Party

The good people over at Livestock have annouced their fourth annual Live Block Party, set to take place on Sunday, September 13th. The event in Vancouver, Canada has traditionally drawn massive crowds for the BBQ event which will feature a mini-ramp contest, live music from a strong cast of DJs and food from the local Japanese izakaya institution Guu.
